Actuated Gun
framing basement-Only want to rent Powder Actuated gun 1 time, can I install just my bottom plates at one time?
I am finishing my basement, and would only like to rent the powder actuated gun 1 time, can I just put ALL of my bottom plates down at one time and then frame the walls as I get time (and money)? Also, is there a cheap alternantive to a powder actuated gun if I need to add the the bottom plates as I go?
Yes you can. But rather then rent, you can buy a Remington nail shooter for under $30.00 at most building big store builders. (home depot etc.) These use .22 cal. loads. Buy the level 4 loads with 2 1/2" nails.
You can now take your time and do it at your leisure. If it's in the basement I'd use pt lumber for the plates. Mark out your stud placement on the plate first so your not trying to place a stud over a nail head. (they don't always go down flush with the plate surface.)
Plumb your top plate to the bottom plate. Your now ready for wall installation. Plumb your first stud, then cut 2 pieces of scrap wood 14 1/2" long. (for 16" oc).Lay the scrap against the first stud, butt the second stud to the scrap and keep going. Take your time and everything should be fine. Good Luck.
