Selecting the right kind of excavator for the job, can be almost as important as the actual job that you are doing. Not selecting the right excavator for the job can result in many mishaps and the job turning into a complete disaster. It can also result in a huge waste of everyone's time as well as their resources. But, most if all the incorrect kind of excavator can result in project or the job being effected the most.
There are a couple of factors that one should consider when it comes to choosing the right kind of excavator for the job that needs to be done. The basic and most important factors can be the cost of the excavator and the condition of the job that you are going to be doing. The costs that one must consider when using an excavator for a job are:
- the size of the job.
- the cost of the transportation of the unit.
- the cost of the work that is going to be done such as drilling or blasting.
When you speak with a representative that deals with new or used excavators, make sure to ask which unit would be the best for the job as some times the cost for the excavation could be less by using a larger piece of equipment. When it comes to the actual considerations for the job, make sure to take everything into consideration. Such as the size of the bucket that you may need. There are many different kinds, shapes and sizes of the buckets that one can choose.
Another thing that you are going to want to look into is the type of hauling units that can be found. You should make sure to ask about the maximum idea of dumping weight to help you consider what is the best size for the job.
Besides the information that has been listed above, there are other things that should be taken into consideration. Those are:
- the depth of the required digging such as the maximum or the minimum.
- the radius for the work that includes digging and dumping.
- the required dumping height as well as the width.
- the clearance for the carrier and the hosting capacity.
If there is any kind of trench work that is going to be done, then your main focus should be on the hoe's ability to do the job. Always take into consideration the size of the job when it comes to selecting the right kind of excavator for the job. This is just a couple of things that should be taken into consideration when it comes to the work and excavators themselves. Always make sure to consult with the owners of the equipment as well as the manufactures about the work that you are going to be doing, so you can select the proper kind of equipment for the job.

Why won't my excavator start?
I have a Komatsu PC50 mini-excavator. My worker changed the diesel filter and now it won't start. He says the diesel isn't getting through so perhaps there are air pockets? How would I resolve this issue?
1. Loosen the fittings on the filter to purge air...
2. Lightly ether start engine...
3. Tighten fittings when leaking diesel fuel...
