The garage is a part of the house which is sometimes taken for granted since it's not an actual area for doing home living. The bearings, hinges, and rollers should be lubricated for proper and safe operation. Torsion springs should also be lubricated with a light coat of oil to reduce the friction between the coils and to eliminate any noises and to even increase the life of the springs.

Squeeking door hinges?

I have solid oak doors inside my house and the problem is that the weight of the doors make my hinges squeek. I have tried WD40 and a couple of other lubricants but the squeeks keep coming back after a short period. Is there anything that I can use that will last and will get rid of my squeeks?

the doors are too heavy for the hinges and will soon give out and the doors wil fall off. try a lithium grease in a spray to lube those squeeks. wd 40 is for rusty items but its not a very good lube for heavy items. great for lighter doors like a car door but i have a solid mahogany Entrance Door and i installed 6 inch hinges no squeeks here

It is also a very unique entertaining experience to have a separate, slightly isolated area for entertaining. And so, the question now is, how can you make a dull, lifeless basement transform into an exciting, vibrant entertainment area? Here are a few basement-finishing ideas to help you out.

Make it warm and inviting

Basements are usually cold and inconvenient, that is why nobody ever goes down into them. Start with a heating and air conditioning upgrade. Run a few heating and air vents throughout the basement so that every section of it stays nice. A wise thing to do would be to allow the basement heat and air to be turned off when no one is using the basement in order to save money. Basement lighting is also quite inadequate most of the time. Run a few wires around and add more light. Be careful when working with electricity, as this is one of the most common causes of residential construction accidents.

Section it off

It isn't that difficult to add a few walls here and there. Throw up a few walls for a bathroom, add some dividers to separate a kitchen area, and even put a small bedroom to accommodate guests. The addition of a few walls will make the basement much more appealing.

Put in a bathroom

When entertaining, you do not want to have to ask your guests to walk upstairs in order to use the bathroom, especially if you are serving alcoholic beverages, which increase traffic to the restroom exponentially. You also do not want to house guests in your basement and make them travel upstairs in order to brush their teeth or wash their face. A small bathroom, with or without a shower, will be a huge asset. Check out a lot of different bathroom designs in order to find the one that suits your situation. If you will not be sleeping guests in the basement, all you need is a toilet and sink. If you will have people staying in the basement, it would be nice to have a nice shower, sink, toilet, and closet space. Someone with a little DIY plumbing knowledge and an eye for bathroom design can put in a nice bathroom very easily.

Use it often

There is no point in doing anything to a basement if you are not going to do anything in the basement. Once you have put all the time and effort into remodeling, don't let it gather any dust. But be careful, with a nice finished basement, you may never have a quiet night to yourself ever again!

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS

 

- These products have specific gravity of about 1 gr/m3.

- Usually they need two layers. Always wet on wet!

- In any case a prior test is highly recommended!

- They are overpaintable.

 

  

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

 

* Substrates should be cleaned preferably by High Pressure water blasting. Dirt, grease, algae, lichens, loose materials should be removed.

* Remove efflorescence with appropriate methods.

* Don't spot clean.

* Seal cracks and joints with appropriate compounds.

* Substrate moisture not to exceed 18-20%.

 

 

APPLICATION GUIDELINES

 

- Preferably use low pressure spray equipment or soft nylon brushes.

- Apply two coats wet on wet.

 

 

Consumption: 0.25 - 0.33 lit/m2 (two layers).

 

Check for overconsumption of horizontal surfaces.

 

There isn't any cure-all product! So you need to enrich your weaponry with other water-repellents e.g. pure siloxanes, polysiloxanes and acrylic-siloxanes combinations.

After long, painful testing periods we ignore more than we know. We anxiously try to keep pace with technical advancements.

What would be more "green". A driveway of concrete or a driveway of marble chips?

I live in a city that proclaims itself to be "green". They recently cited me for too thin of a pebble driveway (which it was). I added 3 yards of 3/4"- 1 marble chips. They then said this was against code. It had to be concrete or paver. What are your thoughts?

If you gotten two different answers, I would try to get to the bottom of it and get the "right" answer. Try to get it in writing.

As far as what is more "green" it's the pebbles/chips, as they will allow water to flow through them and into the ground. Concrete creates more runoff which just has to flow into storm drains.
