Many people are scared of completing a diy re-upholstery job, but with a few guidelines and confidence anyone can complete this project.
If you are still unsure on how it will turn out and are worried that you are going to mess it up then start with a chair that is not the center or attention in your home. Once you complete one chair you will have the confidence to do any chair in your home, or someone else's. To do this diy project I had rounded up the supplies I needed:
These are the steps I took to re-upholster 2 dining room chairs:
1. I used the drill to remove the 4 screws that connected the seat to the frame.
2. Once you have seat separate from the frame of the chair, Cut Out the batting and fabric to size. (Make sure you have a few inches on all sides to be able to glue or staple the fabric to the chair).
3. Place the seat top down on to the batting. Start on one side with your hot glue gun (or heavy duty stapler) and glue down the fabric.
4. Make sure to pull the batting as tight as you can, then (glue or staple). Go inch by inch, pulling then gluing (stapling), pulling then gluing (stapling). Continue this on all 4 sides of the seat until all fabric is glued (stapled) down and pulled tight.
5. Now, repeat the same process with the fabric. Lay the fabric face down and lay the seat face down on top. Repeat step 4 until the fabric is glued (stapled) and tight on all four sides.
6. Now that the seats are re-upholstered, you need to secure the seat back to the frame. I screwed the 4 screws back to the frame and my chairs were complete.
This re-upholstery project cost me nothing. I had all the materials on hand. If you do not have the materials, this can still be an easy cheap project. You would need enough batting and fabric to fit around the seat and have a hot glue gun or Staple Gun to complete this simple re-upholstery project.

I want to reupholster my couch but it shouldn't take me very long. Does anyone know where I could rent a staple gun? And how much something like that would cost? Thanks
You can buy one for about $16.
I dont know of any place that rents them.
I guess you could rent one of the fancy electric ones, but for a small job like that all you need is the manual one.

I am looking to buy a manual cleat nailer for hardwood floor instalation. I am looking at either a Bostitch or Porta-nails nailer. Reviews for both products are good. I like the Porta-nails ratcheting mechanism and its versatility, but it only comes with a 1 year warranty. The Bostitch has less versatility but a seven year warranty. Does anyone have any opinions about either nailer, or how they compare against each other in terms of reliability and sturdiness?
i would go with the bostitch.i have had mine for 4 years with no problems

It is not surprising why so many people choose to have underfloor heating installed in their homes. As well as being space-saving, it can also deliver significant energy and carbon emission savings. This becomes increasingly noticeable when you compare it to other forms of heat emitters. However, as with most other things, underfloor heating can also have it's disadvantages, and whether or not it is for you will completely depend on you and your choice of lifestyle.
What is underfloor heating?
The warm water from the boiler system is circulated through continuous lengths of pipe embedded in the floor, each room has its own circuit. All circuits are connected to a distribution manifold. With each room having its own circuit, the process behind temperature control is quite simple. A thermostat is fitted in the room and connected to an electrically operated valve on the circuit serving that room.
What are the advantages of underfloor heating?
One of the reasons why many people decide to have underfloor heating installed is so that they can have the flexibility and room space to decorate how they wish. Another positive attribute is that an underfloor heating system can be suited to almost any type of flooring.
A further good aspect of underfloor heating is that homeowners will not have to hear unusual noises coming from the room. This is in contrast to radiators which have a tendency to make sounds when they are switched on or off. This can be beneficial for health and safety reasons as you will not have to worry about hot radiators and the under floor's heating presence will hardly be felt.
A noticeable problem with radiators is that they are not very good for the air in the house as they tend to dry it out. You will not find this with underfloor heating and will notice the difference to the overall well being in your home. Underfloor heating is also beneficial for allergy and asthma suffers as it has a balance of convection and radiation which minimises disturbance.
What are the disadvantages of underfloor heating?
Although known as a great energy and space-saver in the home, underfloor heating is not suitable for everyone, and it is important to be aware of some of it's drawbacks.
For one thing, in order to do a complete installation, you will have to be mentally prepared for widespread chaos. Imagine that your whole house will have to be turned upside down in order to get the system installed. Some people find this easier to deal with than others. If you want full insulation in the floors, then be prepared for a complete rebuild.
Perhaps one of it's most frustrating qualities is the amount of time it can take to heat up, especially if the pipe is embedded in a solid floor. All of this will usually depend on what type of flooring you have. For instance, if you have a wooden floor in your home, you could be looking at a 30 minute waiting time for it to warm up, whilst concrete could potentially take many hours. If the heating up period takes time, be prepared for an equally long cooling period. It all depends on individual preferences and whether or not you can put up with this. Some people simply adjust better than others.

when my father built his garage he piped the floor in 6 zones on manifolds for in floor heating. He has a wood boiler and an oil boiler. I know about basic plumbing and understand how these systems work, but i would like to be sure. Is this how to plumb this? Boiler hot teed to expansion tank and mixing valve "hot", mixing valve "mix" to Circulator Pump to "hot" manifold to floor to cold manifold to mixing valve "cold" AND boiler cold, with the circulator being controlled by a thermostat? I have searched the internet and havent found too much information other than basic diagrams. Thanks
When you set up this system you really need to know the lengths of runs , The elevation of runs , and be familiar with these systems. You need steve http://www.radiantsteve.com/index.html

An affine manifold is a manifold with torsion-free flat affine connection.
